Explicit sex manga

The stories of gay manga always involve an unequal power relationship, where sex is the means of domination. The power wielder is the (“tah-chee,” top) and the receiver the (“oo-kay,” bottom). They range from realistic to the fantastic, with various measures of each in the same manga. Sometimes the sex is explicitly about bonding, at other times it seems like gratuitous violence. There are soft gay manga, or yaoi, originally produced for a female readership rather than for gay men. Yaoi are about boys falling in love and, at their most explicit, coyly ejaculating to soft moans and kisses. Then at the opposite extreme there are hard historical manga portraying page after page of epic sexual torture, held together by a very threadbare plot.

I initially struggled to outline what “sexually explicit manga” exactly means, but I ultimately went with “any manga where a sizeable portion of its content consists of considerably perverted or sexual acts, subjects, imagery, etc.”

The content does not have to be titillating, meaning something like Berserk counts too, which obviously is not meant to arouse you (unless you have questionable fetishes).

Of course, this list will NOT include straight up hentai. Erotica or borderline hentai is okay, though I will mostly try to avoid them.

Ero-manga (erotic manga comics) is associated with sex, of course, but not just any old sex. Great sex. Strange sex. Fetishes. And, let’s be frank, non-consensual sex.
