A Galaxy Next Door is a cute new romance manga from Gido Amagakure, the creator of Sweetness and Lightening. This love story between an artist and his assistant is a lot stranger than it first appears, so get ready for some sci-fi shenanigan’s and mishaps involving alien physiology!

A Galaxy Next Door is a very cute romance with a fun, fantastical twist. Shiori had lived a very sheltered life before she left her island to see the rest of the world and her enthusiasm about experiencing some romance, just like in the shojo manga she’s read, is infectious. Ichiro is also quite cute. He’s been devotedly caring for his two adorable siblings and, while he doesn’t want to get swept up in a crazy engagement, he isn’t immune to Shiori’s charms. Their growing relationship is very sweet and heart-warming. I especially enjoyed Ichiro’s siblings shocked reactions to seeing their brother getting close to a gorgeous girl!

In return, the male leads of A Galaxy Next Door and TONIKAWA are respectful, selfless and friendly young men who are worthy of their new female friend’s affection and loyalty. Just like Nasa Yuzaki, the manga author Ichiro Kugo shows the gentle, caring side of modern masculinity and appreciates Shiori as an assistant without any R-rated antics or desires. Together, he and Shiori create a subtly sweet and wholesome romance that, by design, doesn’t do anything fancy or bizarre to draw readers in. It trades fan service for sheer realism and reliability, similar to TONIKAWA‘s main romance, and the two characters have little drama between them. Instead, they’ll stand as a team against external challenges and threats, mostly pertaining to money and Ichiro’s career as a manga artist.

Adapted from the manga series by mangaka Gido Amagakure, episode two of A Galaxy Next Door has manga artist Ichiro succumb to a high fever because he is physically too far away from his assistant Shiori, an alien Star Princess he inadvertently got engaged to last episode. Ichiro learns that the fever will subside if he’s in proximity to his betrothed and that physical contact with her will expedite the healing process. Later, he’s transported to a dark clouded area and gets a nosebleed after grabbing Shiori’s arm and dragging her away from what could have been an unpleasant altercation. Shiori informs him that her own physical and emotional trauma will affect him physically. Although Ichiro was protecting her from some overbearing guys, Shiori misinterpreted the situation and saw Ichiro’s actions as being too aggressive, hence why Ichiro’s nose began to bleed.
