Tomura Shigaraki (), real name Tenko Shimura (), is the main antagonist of the manga and anime series.
Shigaraki Tomura is the main antagonist of Kohei Horikoshi’s manga where he leads the Paranormal Liberation Front, formerly known as the League of Villains. Being the successor to All For One, Shigaraki was bound to become powerful and as the events of the war arc slowly unfold, fans are getting a taste of what he’s truly capable of doing.
When writing villains for anime or manga, a lot of authors focus way too much on power and motivations but forget to write interesting personalities. Fortunately, this is not what happened with Tomura Shigaraki; this is a character who feels truly unhinged while being surprisingly likable at the same time.
In an action shonen manga like My Hero Academia, it is important for the main antagonists to have powerful abilities that allow them to go toe-to-toe against the main protagonist. In the case of Tomura Shigaraki, he originally wielded the Decay Quirk, which, like the name implies, lets him slowly decay everything he touches. While it was mildly dangerous at first, it didn’t pose a true threat to everyone until Shigaraki accepted its existence and evolved it so he didn’t even need to touch someone in order to eliminate them, as the decay could be spread through the floor.
Tomura can disintegrate anything he touches. This is a quirk that he’s progressively pushed throughout the series (especially so in the manga). Originally he had to make direct contact with all five fingers. But later he found that indirect contact would work as well, if he was properly motivated. If you want to see the fight in which Tomura really pushed his quirk, check out the manga and look for the scene where he fights Re-Destro.
